The median list price for homes for sale in La Jolla, California for  week of September 6, 2010 was $2,200,000. Currently there are 307 properties listed for sale in La Jolla, these properties have been on the market for an average of 173 days. With several months of inventory available at the current sales rate, buyers should find ample choice.

The market has settled in at a relative stasis in inventory and sales conditions. It’s a Buyer’s market that has seen prices trend lower. Expect that consistent up trends in demand will be required before price trends change significantly.

Point Loma Aquatic Center once again is the gathering place for the San Diego Triathlon Classic on Saturday, September 18.  Known as San Diego’s only Olympic Distance Race, the San Diego Triathlon Classic is celebrating its 36^th year and expects many participants this year.

The race course has a 1.5K flat-water protected swim in the San Diego Bay is followed by a 40K hilly bike ride through Cabrillo National Park and the Point Loma Naval Base, and a quick, flat bay front run.  The course is multi-loop which allows spectators to enjoy multiple views of the participants.  It is a USAT sanctioned event and USAT rules must be followed.

The Point Loma two-day expo for families and participants begins on Friday, September 17 from 2-7pm in the southeastern lawn of NTC Park.  Participants must register, pick up race materials and sign waivers during that time.   Various vendors and entertainment options are available at the expo and throughout the course.  More information can be found here .

 The Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon is a fundraiser supporting orphaned animals and illustrate responsible pet ownership.  Owners and their dogs can enter 20 minute heats, categorized by weight. The ability of dogs to ride waves while having fun and remain on a surfboard will determine the award recipients.  Each weight based group will have a 1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd prize and the 1st place winner will move on to the final competition.   

Many other activities, games, and vendors will be offered, as well, including an interactive tent with fun games and crafts and the well attended Beach Bum Bikini Babe Canine Costume Contest.  To get more information, visit Rancho Santa Fe’s Animal Center at www.animalcenter.org.

 A $33 million plan to remove cars from the center of Balboa Park was announced this week.  Completion of the project  would result in a new structure, just in time for  the park’s 100th birthday in 2015.  The plan would require the elimination of 67 parking spaces, and result in the addition of 900 spaces in a parking garage.  Debate still is to be had regarding whether the structure will charge an hourly fee.

However, the plan will also result in a more beautiful Balboa Park and easier access to the beautiful historical architecture of Balboa Park.  To vote or voice your opinion, visit Sign On San Diego on the web.  Currently 44% of the vote believes the area should not be used for cars, and 35% of the vote believes the structure should be free.  20% of the people who voted suggested leaving the plaza just the way it is.

The Coronado Art Walk will be at the Coronado Ferry Landing from 10:00am-5:00pm.  Artists will booths will extend along the entrance and on the grounds of the Ferry Landing.  Painting, hand crafted jewelry, photography, ceramics and other mediums will be featured. Artists have been jury-selected for their ability to express vast and varied art forms.  Interactive Art Activities will also provide activities for both children and adults.

The Coronado Ferry Landing’s Galleries and Artists, Coronado Art Association’s Artists in Spreckels Park, and Coronado High School’s Art Department and Coronado School of the Arts will also participate in the art walk. Mark your calendars now and enjoy September 18th and 19th in Coronado.

Registration closes on September 24^th, and you can swim by yourself or include up to five people on your swim team, by having each individual register under your “Team Name”.  The participation cost is $50 per swimmer until September 15 when it will be raised to $70.  Any swimmers under 18 need to have a waiver signed by an on-site parent or coach.

All funds raised from this event will benefit the American Diabetes Association, La Jolla Cove Swim Club, and San Diego Junior Lifeguard Foundation.  Free street parking is available on Sundays.  For more information, check the La Jolla Swim Club website here.
