Dogs Surf Near Your Coronado Home
The 6th Annual Loews Coronado Bay Resort surf dog competition is this Saturday, June 4th. Held at Dunes Park in Imperial Beach, this event actually allows you to watch dogs surf! If you live in Coronado, this is a must attend fundraiser. This year’s event will benefit DonorChoose.org, an organization that allows individual donors to grant requests for teachers in public schools, some of which are located near your Coronado home. The goal is to earn $10,000 in donations.
Registered dog competitors are asked to arrive between 10 and 10:30 a.m. and participate in practice sessions with the Coronado Surfing Academy. The official contest begins at 11 a.m. with heat one (small dogs, 40 pounds and under) and heat two is next featuring large dogs, over 40 pounds. Following those heats, tandem surfing will take place. The awards ceremony begins between 1 and 2 p.m. $10 parking is available at the YMCA Camp Surf parking lot, located at 560 Silver Strand Boulevard, and a complimentary beach shuttle will be available.
