Soundtrack to Summer: Free Concerts Across San Diego, Summer 2025

There’s something about those first real days of summer in San Diego.

Maybe it’s the way the light lingers a little longer, or how the evenings start to hum with the promise of plans—outdoor dinners, beach bonfires, and a playlist of memories waiting to be made.

June 20th marks the summer solstice this year, and with it, the unofficial kickoff to a season of long days, golden hours, and neighborhood traditions. Around here, one of the best ways to soak it all in? Free outdoor concerts.

From the shores of Solana Beach to the lawns of Coronado and the fields of Point Loma, here’s your guide to San Diego’s free summer concert scene—lined up by date, stretching from the first notes of May to the final encores of August.

44th Annual Fiesta del Sol

📍 Fletcher Cove Park, Solana Beach | 🗓 Saturday & Sunday, May 31–June 1, 2025

Solana Beach knows how to kick off summer right. Fiesta del Sol brings two days of live music, street food, art, and sun—right by the water and in the heart of town. This year’s lineup has a little something for everyone, but we’re especially excited for SULLVN, taking the stage Saturday at 4:30 PM. A friend of the Gellens crew, the band brings “a fresh take on retro soul,” blending classic grooves with modern pop energy. You won’t want to miss them playing “Oh California,”—a heartfelt ode to the Golden State.

Coronado Promenade Concert Series

📍 Spreckels Park, Coronado | 🗓 Sundays, May 25 – August 31, 2025

Now in its 55th season, this beloved Coronado tradition brings families, neighbors, and visitors together for music, laughter, and long summer evenings under the trees. The lineup ranges from big band brass to classic rock—set against a backdrop of picnic spreads, barefoot dancing, and kids racing through the grass. Mark your calendar for the Military Appreciation Concert on August 3rd—a special night honoring the community’s deep military ties.

Switchfoot BRO-AM

📍 Moonlight Beach, Encinitas | 🗓 June 21, 2025

Part surf contest, part beach festival, and headlined by a free concert from hometown heroes Switchfoot—the BRO-AM is a full-day celebration of everything Encinitas is about: sun, music, community, and giving back. Locals show up early to catch the morning surf heats, stake their spot in the sand, and stay for the show. After a few local openers, Switchfoot takes the stage—playing right on the beach as the sun starts to dip. It’s one of the most meaningful free concerts of the season, raising awareness for local youth programs through the BRO-AM Foundation, which supports music, art, surfing, and wellness initiatives for San Diego youth.

 Del Mar Summer Twilight Concerts

📍 Powerhouse Park, Del Mar | 🗓 June 24 – August 12, 2025

This is the kind of evening that makes you fall in love with summer all over again. Locals gather on the lawn at Powerhouse Park, blankets spread, snacks unpacked, and the sound of live music mingling with the ocean breeze. Since 1983, the Del Mar Summer Twilight Concerts have been a cherished tradition—pairing community and coastline in the most effortless way. If you’ve ever been, you might recognize a familiar face on stage: Marti’s husband, T. Pat, has been involved in planning the Del Mar Summer Twilight Concerts for over 20 years. T. Pat—the ultimate ambassador of the Del Mar community—brings the spirit of the event alive by welcoming the crowd, introducing the bands, and handing out raffle prizes. Music kicks off with an opening act at 6 PM, followed by the main band at 7 PM. With the sun setting behind the performers and waves crashing just beyond, it’s hard to imagine a more iconic place to spend a summer night.

🎸 Point Loma Summer Concerts

📍 Point Loma Park, Point Loma | 🗓 Fridays, July 11 – August 8, 2025

This one feels like a hometown block party—just add live music. What started back in 2001 has grown into a Point Loma staple, with generations gathering to catch the show. Picture kids dancing barefoot on the lawn, neighbors sharing snacks from picnic baskets, and the sun dipping low as the music fills the park. Expect a festive, community-first vibe with a lineup that spans genres and ages. Each night kicks off with local student performers on the Kids Stage at 5:30 PM, followed by the main act at 6:15 PM. The concerts are hosted by volunteers and civic groups, not just for fun—but to raise awareness and support for local music education programs in nearby schools.

Final Notes

As the longest days of the year unfold, there’s something grounding about marking the season the way San Diegans know best: with friends, fresh air, and live music—whether by the water or at a neighborhood park. The summer solstice might be just one day, but around here, the spirit of it lingers—woven into Saturday afternoons in Solana Beach, Sunday evenings in Coronado, and golden hour picnics in Del Mar and Point Loma.

It’s moments like these that remind us why we love living here. If you ever find yourself dreaming about a new place to call home—closer to the coast, the music, or just a fresh start—we’re always here to help.

Here’s to a season full of sunsets, good company, and the perfect soundtrack.
